About
This Course guides you step by step through introducing a horse to ridden work for the first time, or rebuilding confidence in horses with negative past experiences or who are disconnected when ridden. Beginning with thorough groundwork preparation, you’ll cover tacking up, teaching clear voice and rein cues for walk, halt, and turn, as well as short reining and long reining. A strong focus is placed on the mounting block as a key point for building relaxation, connection, and a smooth transition from ground to saddle. From there, the course progresses gradually into ridden work, using simple, practical exercises you can easily recreate at home, even if you’re new to starting horses. Throughout, the emphasis is on keeping your horse calm, willing, and connected. By the end, your horse will be confident lining up to mount, relaxed with a rider on board, and responsive to basic ridden cues, setting you up for a positive and solid foundation under saddle.
